The origin of kiwi is Chinese. The fruit was grown there as far back as 700 years ago. It diffusion in Europe took place around the late 20th century. Italy became one of the major world producers of this fruit in a relatively short period of time, most notably in its Lazio and Piedmont regions. We import the Hayward variety of kiwi from Chile and New Zealand and export our excellent Italian fruit all over the world.
